When an infection is detected inside the root or "pulp" of your tooth, a root canal may be recommended. Cracked or chipped teeth, having a deep filling or cavity, or injury to a tooth can allow bacteria to enter the pulp, causing the infection. If the infection is not treated in a timely manner, the tooth may need to be extracted. We advise you to retain your natural teeth if possible.
